Dashboard: Available Disk Space<\/strong> extends the built-in At a Glance<\/strong> widget on your WordPress Dashboard with a compact \u201cAvailable Storage Space\u201d<\/strong> row.<\/p>\n\n

When you open Dashboard \u2192 Home<\/strong>, you\u2019ll immediately see:<\/p>\n\n

  • How much disk space is used<\/strong> and free<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • A clear progress bar that fills up as your server disk gets full<\/li>\n
  • A quick visual indication when you\u2019re running low on storage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    This is useful if:<\/p>\n\n

    • You\u2019re on shared hosting and want to avoid \u201cout of disk space\u201d surprises<\/li>\n
    • You manage multiple client sites and need a quick disk space check right after login<\/li>\n
    • You want a lightweight alternative to full server monitoring or security suites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

      The plugin is intentionally small and dependency-free<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n

      • No extra admin menus<\/li>\n
      • No tracking or data collection<\/li>\n
      • Just one clean line in At a Glance<\/strong> with a visual bar and readable numbers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

        1. Upload the dashboard-available-disk-space<\/code> folder to the \/wp-content\/plugins\/<\/code> directory, or install the plugin via Plugins \u2192 Add New<\/strong> and search for \u201cDashboard: Available Disk Space\u201d.<\/li>\n
        2. Activate the plugin through the Plugins<\/strong> menu in WordPress.<\/li>\n
        3. Go to Dashboard \u2192 Home<\/strong>. In the At a Glance<\/strong> widget you\u2019ll see a new \u201cAvailable Storage Space\u201d<\/strong> row with disk usage and a progress bar.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n

          How is disk space calculated?<\/h3><\/dt>\n

          The plugin uses PHP\u2019s built-in disk_total_space()<\/code> and disk_free_space()<\/code> functions on the WordPress root path. This shows disk usage for the partition that hosts your WordPress installation.<\/p><\/dd>\n

          Will this work on any hosting provider?<\/h3><\/dt>\n

          It should work on most Linux-based shared hosting and VPS servers that allow PHP to read disk information. If disk_free_space()<\/code> is disabled on your server, the widget will show a warning instead of breaking your dashboard.<\/p><\/dd>\n

          Does this slow down my Dashboard?<\/h3><\/dt>\n

          No. The widget performs a single disk check when the Dashboard loads. There are no scheduled tasks or background processes.<\/p><\/dd>\n

          Is this multisite compatible?<\/h3><\/dt>\n

          Yes. Network-activate the plugin and the disk space widget will be available on the Network Admin Dashboard.<\/p><\/dd>\n

          Can I move it outside of At a Glance?<\/h3><\/dt>\n

          Not at the moment. The plugin is designed to keep things simple by integrating directly into the existing At a Glance<\/strong> widget instead of adding new Dashboard widgets.<\/p><\/dd>\n\n<\/dl>\n\n\n
